Robin Padilla calls the government to disarm all warlords in Mindanao

ILIGAN CITY – Actor and Goodwill Ambassador for Peace Robin Padilla of Philippine Government and United Nations Action on Conflict and Transformation (ACT) for Peace Programme yesterday called strongly the Government to disarm all warlords in Mindanao to give ways for peace.

In his speech before the Interfaith Forum today at Elena Tower Inn, Barangay Tibanga here which attended by 100 delegates coming from different faith’s leaders of Islam, Assemblies of God, Seventh Day Adventist, Evangelical church, United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP) and Roman Catholic Church, Mr. Padilla expressed that the manifestation of peace is gun less.

In a press conference, he extends his heartfelt condolences to the families and relatives of 57 victims of world worst ever massacre in Maguindanao Province on Monday including 12 journalists from different media and press organizations and hopes that no efforts will be spared to bring justice and hold those perpetrators accountable.

“ Lately talking with some of my companion of the ACT for Peace, I ask if we would proceed to Maguindanao, but seriously I am more than willing to go to such province if my presence needed to purse peace between the warring clan”, he stressed when asked by the interfaith delegates on what can he does on the Maguindanao massacre.

In consonant with the celebration of the Mindanao Week of Peace, he reiterates his advocacy for peace, but for him difficult in talking peace while somebody is pointing gun and curtails the rights of one to vote of what he wishes, and reiterates his call for the disarmament of warlords in Manguindanao
Referring to century old armed conflict in Mindanao, and citing the Quran of Islam and the Bible for Christian for him no difference, all people belonged to one family, and no need to fight each other, only way one should see to the other one as brother, relatives, and else that preventing one from fighting to the other one.

He talked to the interfaith after he has launched the peace project in Barangay Baraason, Kauswagan, Lanao Del Norte where he helped in constructing the core shelter, barangay pharmacy and led the distribution of farm inputs and sacks of rice to the farmers.

ACT for Peace Programmed Manager Ms. Diosita T. Andot based in Davao City, together Mr. Musa Sanguila, director of the Pakigdait Inc., an Interfaith Grassroots Peace Building Civil Society here who organized the interfaith forum accompanied Robin Padilla in the launching of peace project, while Secretary Jesus Dureza, Presidential Adviser for Mindanao Affair failed to joined such ahead scheduled visit before the Massacre in Maguindanao where his name dragged into controversy on his meeting with the Ampatuan Clan, the prime suspect of the dreaded massacre.

Few years ago, Municipality of Kausawagan Lanao del Norte was held hostage by the alleged members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), few years after, the same group attacked the adjacent place, the municipality of Kolambugan of the same province.

Barangay Baraason is a remote place and lack of development with dilapidated roads, lack of livelihood opportunities and suffered low farm production and constantly hit by armed engagement between the Armed Forces of the Philippine Government and the MILF.( Tito Natividad Fiel)
