OZAMIZ CITY—The Archdiocese of Ozamiz mourns over the death of Vicar General Monsignor Emie O. Bienes who died of liver cancer.
In an interview with dxDD-AM News Bureau, Ozamiz Clergy President Fr. Edgar Canama disclosed that Bienes died in Cebu City on December 4, 2009 due to complications of liver cancer. He was 63.
The Catholics of the Archdiocese of Ozamiz have lost a kind and dedicated priest, a good friend and trusted member of the board of consultors.
The archdiocese will offer a nine-day requiem masses for Msgr. Biene in all parishes and has called on all priests and religious to include in their mass intentions the eternal repose of Bienes’s soul.
Born on September 3, 1946, he was ordained a priest on April 21, 1976. He celebrated the 33rd anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood on April 21, 2009.
At the time of his death, Bienes was parish priest of St. Michael Parish Tangub City and Vicar General of the Archdiocese.
As a teacher before entering the seminary, Bienes was former staff of St. Mary’s Theologate Seminary in Gango district in 1977-79.
His remains lie in state at the Saint Michael Archangel Parish, Tangub City and will be brought to his hometown in Tudela, where a concelebrated funeral mass will be held on December 14 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Saint Isidro Labrador Catholic Cemetery, Tudela, Misamis Occidental.
Cathedral administrator Fr. Marvin Osmeña said Bienes has taken part in many Mindanao-wide activities.
“Let us all together pray and entrust the eternal repose of his soul to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.” Osmeña said. (Wendell Talibong)
