OZAMIZ CITY:IT’S final.
Ozamiz City Vice-mayor Carlos Patricio ‘Kaloy’ Bernad has decided to run for governor in Misamis Occidental coming 2010 elections.
In his report over dxDD-AM, Fernando ‘Nanding’ Dumanjug, vice-mayor’s media staff said Bernad will run for governor under Senators Nonoy Aquino and Mar Roxas’ Liberal Party (LP).
In recent survey by the SWS, the most preferred tandem was that of Aquino-Roxas, which received a 51-percent voter preference, based on a pre-selected list of five combinations.
This tandem was followed by former President Joseph Estrada-Sen. Loren Legarda (12 percent), Sen. Manuel Villar-Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan (11 percent), Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero-Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay (9 percent) and Vice President Noli de Castro-Interior Secretary Ronaldo Puno (4 percent).
“Bernad’s decision to join the gubernatorial race is likely to win the backing of LP, propelling him to a place among the front-runners for the post to square off Misamis Occidental 2nd District Representative Hermina ‘Hermie’ Ramiro and Vice-governor Francisco Paylaga, Jr.,” Dumanjug added.
Earlier, Bernad was tasked to organize the Liberal Party and Noynoy Aquino Movement for President in the province of Misamis Occidental.
Dumanjug said, Bernad preferred by the party as provincial chair since he has the same fate with Nonoy and Mar as successor of their family’s historical-political legacy to the people.
Nonoy is the son of former Philippine President Cory Aquino, heroine of the 1986 "People Power" movement and late Senator Benigno ‘Ninoy’ Aquino, who was assassinated which his martyrdom galvanized the Filipinos to unite and rise in opposition against former President Ferdinand Marcos, which restored democracy in the Philippines.
Mar is the son of former senator Jerry Roxas and the grandson of late President Manuel Roxas who fought for the democracy of the country.
Bernad is the grandson of the late political legend in Misamis Occidental Gov. Don Anselmo Bernad who served the province in the early 1940’s.
Don Aselmo was responsible in putting up the Capitol Building, provincial hospital, provincial high school, creating road network and bridges in the cities and municipalities of the province.
In his report, Dumanjug described Don Anselmo as paradigm of spotless governance.
Bernad is also the son of former Ozamiz City mayor Fernando ‘Dongdong’ Bernad, who donated their properties for the people and to the Catholic Church which included the lots where now the Ozamiz City Hall erected, Prosfera park, Ozamiz City National High School, Bernad playground, La Salle University Ozamiz (formerly Immaculate Concepcion College), and Ozamiz City Cathedral.

After sacrificing his chances for higher political positions in the past for the sake of those who are power-hungry now is the right time for Kaloy.
