LANAO DEL NORTE SUFFERS 3.63 MILLION PESOS DAMAGE ON FLOOD AND LEFT 1,329 EVACUEES – CIVIL DEFENSE OFFICE SAYS

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY--In addition to the macro –peace and order problem in Lanao del Norte in relation to unended conflict between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, it now suffers the 3.63 million pesos damage on flush flood Sunday that left 1,329 families evacuees as of yesterday, office of the civil defense region 10 assessment said today.

Region 10 Director Carmelito A. Lupo of the Office of the Civil Defense, on his report said that two municipalities in Lanao del Norte which Lala and Tubod involving fourteen barangays were mostly affected by the flood that also damaging the 42 houses where 27 of these partially while 15 totally damaged.

“Tubod, the capital town of the province was largely hit where the flood damaged its rice plantation, corn, high value commercial crops and vegetable worth of P2.31 million including four cattle two carabaos, 44 heads of swine, 21 goats and 692 chicken and ducks that the livestock alone worth of P0.34 million pesos”, Lupo stressed.

He said, the flood has also Damaged to fisheries involving 43.05 has. of seaweeds and 23.05 has. of fishponds also amounted to P0.83M, while a Php0.16M damage in infrastructures
The Provincial and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Councils have provided the flood victims with emergency stuff for food, such as rice, noodles, sardines and other needs, like mats, blankets and cooking pots, while the Dept. of Health, Center for Health Development, Northern Mindanao (DOH-CHD-NM) gave an augmentation for medicines worth Php50,528.40 and some 20 pieces of Jerry cans.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomic Services (PAGASA) has warned, anew, the people living near the mountain slopes and in low-lying areas of the river systems in the region 10, to be vigilant for possible flashfloods and landslides.

This, as the tail-end of a cold front has continued to bring in light to moderate rains for the next 24 hours, with the amount of rainfall observed at 13.0mm and 15.0mm. in Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro City and Malaybalay City, respectively, in the last 24 hours.

The OCD now with different government agencies and local government units stay vigilant to the areas along the riversides such as near the Odiongan, Tagoloan, Cagayan de Oro, Manduloy and Cabulig Rivers in Misamis Oriental, the Oroquieta River in Misamis Occidental and the Agus, Liangan, Maranding, Mandulog, Dapao and Mataling Rivers in Lanao del Norte.( Tito N.
